City Green leases a five acre farm property from the City of Clifton, where our offices and headquarters now reside. Formerly known as "Schultheis Farm", the property was a family owned and run farm until the city purchased the property in 2005 with the support of Passaic County Open Space funding and New Jersey Green Acres funding, preserving the property as open space forever. The property boasts a beautiful view of the New York City skyline, as well as a greenhouse, recently restored farmhouse and a large barn.
City Green currently has two and a half acres of the property in vegetable production. We grow over 50 different varieties of organic produce to support our market operation and to further our mission of providing access to healthy and affordable, local, farm fresh food. We have our own composting operation as well as keep bees... all part of a sustainable farm operation.
An additional acre of the property is devoted to a Learning Farm in support of education in sustainable agriculture, food systems and environmental stewardship. Outside of the vegetable beds, the Learning Farm is planted with strictly native perennials to attract a wide variety of pollinators to our farm and in support of native birds, bees and beneficial insects. The Learning Farm is home to our flock of laying hens and a small herd of friendly goats. City Green is proud to preserve the farming heritage of the city of Clifton and steward this property as an agricultural and educational asset for the residents of this city and the surrounding northern NJ region.
