Happy Earth Day from all of us here at City Green!
This past Saturday we held our Earth Day Festival at the Farm Eco-Center. With over 250 guests, this was an exciting event filled with opportunities for learning, growing, and engaging with the natural world!
This year, the Earth Day Festival focused on the theme “Think Globally, Act Locally" and was a celebration of our community as a valuable and inseparable part of nature and the local ecosystem. This year's festival featured activities and opportunities to plant in the garden, craft with natural materials, and take action through environmental advocacy. Through these activities, the Earth Day Festival encouraged visitors to build relationships with plants, animals, and the natural world around us!
City Green learning stations included Eat Local led by City Green’s Farm Market Director Alex Caroleo and Good Food Bucks Manager Robbie Economou. At this table, guests enjoyed taste-testing a carrot and herb salad made of vegetables straight from our farm while learning about seasonal eating and how to purchase local vegetables from our markets. City Green’s Head Gardener Karen Myers and South Branch Farm Manager Emily Jacobi hosted a table about Sustainable Gardening, where guests learned about native plants, got tips about how to create bird and butterfly habitat gardens at home, and took home seeds to get them started.
In addition to learning tables, there were also plenty of family activities to take part in. Guests of all ages participated in Bomba Music Workshops with Semilla Ancestral and learned about this Afro-Boricua cultural practice that incorporates call-and-response drumming, dancing, and singing. And for our youngest learners, there were activities such as digging in the garden, nature crafts, and outdoor play with ribbon wands and bubbles!
City Green was also joined by a number of amazing guest organizations and vendors! Guests purchased houseplants from Leila’s Plants, tea and natural products from Alexis’ Naturals, art and books from Muyu, and more! We were also joined by one of our sponsors, PosiGen, who provided information about solar panels to our guests and staff.
Thank you so much to everyone who attended our 2025 Earth Day Festival!
